Fieldwork in Värmland, Sweden

Updated: May 20, 2020

Last week I had an awesome time doing fieldwork in Sweden. Spotting, sketching and studying birds at temperatures to -26°C. With the help of interesting locals we had the chance to come face to face with some rare species as the Pygmee Owl, Northern Hawk Owl, Grey-headed Woodpecker and Arctic redpoll. Seeing them in their natural habitat helps to capture the essence of the birds in a drawing. At one location the songbirds even came to take a look at my sketches. The week flew by and it seemed like we where always in a rush to be somewhere when we just spotted a new species.
