These watercolors were made on Mykines, Faroe Islands. Thousands of Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) nest here on top of the cliffs. The day I visited the island it was extremely windy and the birds had difficulties landing. A funny sight to see them battle the wind in order to land. After some rest they would hobble to their burrows with their bills filled with European Smelt (Osmerus erperlanus) to feed the chicks. After some pages of warm-up sketches I managed to make these watercolors on a sheltered spot behind a rock from where I could observe these funny birds from a short distance.
