These small birds are very secretive and skittish. They live in reed beds and marshy areas with a lot of vegetation. Although they can scream very loud call you seldom get to see them. Winter is the best time to see them as the ice often push them farther out of the reed banks. They don’t fly very much but prefer to sprint when crossing an open area. With a length of only 25-28 cm, they are a lot smaller compared to the Common moorhen. This plate visualizes the most typical aspects of this species.
