Exciting news! In 2018 National Geographic celebrates the Year of the Bird. Every month author Bob Buiter and I will present a different species which intrigues researchersfeatured in the Dutch January issue.

  • January : Sanderling (Calidris alba)

  • February : European Robin (Erithacus rubecula)

  • March : Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus)

  • April : European pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca)

  • ​May : Common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus)​

  • June : Red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio)

  • July : Barn swallow (Hirundo rustica)

  • August : Montagu's harrier (Circus pygargus)

  • September : Corn bunting (Emberiza calandra)

  • October : Red knot (Calidris canutus)

  • November : Northern fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis)​
